Job Overview

Facilities Engineer

Work Schedule: Full-Time; Night and Swing Shifts with applicable shift differentials included in the compensation package.

Position Summary

1. Responsible for overseeing, operating, maintaining, and enhancing the physical infrastructure systems and equipment to guarantee dependable, efficient, safe, clean, and comfortable facility operations that support patient care.

2. The systems under management include: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, steam and hot water production, power generation, pumping systems, control mechanisms, transportation systems (elevators, pneumatic tubes), medical and compressed gases, electrical systems, life safety measures (Fire Protection/Detection), fuel management, and water treatment.

3. Maintains documentation of building operations, incidents, and specific maintenance and repair tasks in compliance with policies and relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continuously monitor the operation of physical plant systems for efficiency, appropriate operating parameters (temperature, pressure, status), cleanliness, and safety, including visual inspections during each shift and utilizing centralized control systems.
  • Make necessary adjustments to systems as required.
  • Conduct testing, corrective, and preventive maintenance of systems as assigned or as needed.
  • Keep a detailed shift log, complete work orders, and submit purchase requests as necessary.
  • Analyze and report on system failures or deviations from standard operations.
  • Test and monitor water chemistry for steam, heating, and chilled water systems.
  • Ensure assigned mechanical rooms and service equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and reliable condition.
  • Utilize equipment, supplies, and repair parts as recommended by manufacturers and in accordance with policy and plant practices.
  • Perform duties in alignment with hospital policies and applicable safety and health regulations.
  • Assist and coordinate the authorized work of others.
  • Communicate assessments regarding the operation of physical plant systems.
  • Provide respectful customer service.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot operational issues and restore systems to proper functioning with minimal disruption to patient care.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the maintenance and operation of mechanical valves, electrical disconnects, pneumatic and digital controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Work independently during non-standard hours as required.
Qualifications Required:
  • Education/Training: Completion of additional vocational training.
  • Practical experience in the operation and maintenance of commercial heating and air conditioning systems.
