Position Overview

Building Systems Engineer - Providence Service

Schedule: Full-Time; Night Shift with applicable shift differentials.

Role Summary

  1. Oversees, operates, maintains, and enhances facility systems and equipment to guarantee dependable, efficient, safe, clean, and comfortable operations that support patient care.
  2. Key systems include: HVAC, steam and hot water systems, power generation, pumping mechanisms, control systems, transportation systems (elevators, pneumatic tubes), medical gases, electrical safety systems, and water treatment.
  3. Records facility operations, incidents, and specific maintenance and repair tasks in compliance with policies and applicable standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor facility operations for efficiency, appropriate operating conditions (temperature, pressure, status), cleanliness, and safety. This includes visual inspections of all systems during each shift and utilization of centralized control systems.
  • Make necessary adjustments to systems.
  • Conduct testing, corrective, and preventive maintenance of systems as assigned or required.
  • Maintain shift logs, complete work orders, and purchase requests as necessary.
  • Analyze and report on system failures or deviations from standard operations.
  • Test and monitor water chemistry for steam, heating, and chilled water systems.
  • Keep assigned mechanical rooms and service equipment in a clean, well-maintained, safe, and reliable condition.
  • Utilize equipment, supplies, and repair parts as recommended by manufacturers and in accordance with policy and best practices.
  • Perform duties in alignment with hospital policies and applicable safety and health regulations.
  • Assist and coordinate the authorized work of others.
  • Communicate assessments of facility operations effectively.
  • Ensure respectful customer service is maintained.
  • Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot operational issues and restore systems to proper functioning with minimal impact on patient care.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the maintenance and operation of mechanical valves, electrical disconnects, pneumatic and digital controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Capable of working independently during non-standard hours.

Qualifications Required:

  • Education/Training: Additional vocational training is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems is essential.
