Schedule: Full-Time position; Third shift/swing shift. Shift differential included in addition to base salary.
Position Summary
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for overseeing, operating, and enhancing the physical plant systems and equipment to ensure optimal, efficient, safe, and hygienic facility performance in support of patient care.
The systems managed include: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, steam and hot water production, power generation, pumping systems, controls, transportation systems (elevators, pneumatic tubes), medical and compressed gases, electrical systems, life safety measures (Fire Protection/Detection), as well as fuel and water treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor the physical plant operations for efficiency, safety, and cleanliness, including visual inspections of all systems during each shift and utilizing centralized controls.
- Make necessary adjustments to systems as required.
- Conduct testing, corrective actions, and preventive maintenance of systems as needed.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, complete work orders, and submit purchase requests as necessary.
- Analyze and report any failures or deviations in plant systems from standard operations.
- Test and monitor water chemistry for steam, heating, and chilled water loops.
- Ensure assigned mechanical rooms and service equipment are kept clean, well-maintained, and in safe working order.
- Utilize equipment, supplies, and repair parts as recommended by manufacturers and in accordance with established policies.
- Perform duties in compliance with hospital policies and applicable safety and health regulations.
- Assist and coordinate the authorized work of other personnel.
- Communicate assessments regarding the physical plant operations effectively.
- Provide respectful customer service.
- Demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot system issues and restore proper operations with minimal disruption to patient care.
- Exhibit proficiency in maintaining and operating mechanical valves, electrical disconnects, pneumatic and digital controls, and variable frequency drives.
- Work independently during non-standard hours as needed.
- Education/Training: Additional vocational training is preferred.
- Hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of commercial heating and air conditioning systems is essential.
