Grants Management Specialist

We are looking for a Grants Management Specialist who will oversee grant-related activities for designated departments within the institution's Research Administration. This role is essential in assisting faculty and staff during the proposal development phase, addressing inquiries related to grant management.


Key Responsibilities
  • The Specialist evaluates incoming grant action requests for accuracy and adherence to regulations, negotiates favorable grant terms with various sponsors, and has the expertise to draft alternative language when necessary.
  • This position entails the creation, negotiation, and management of grants under primary awards for all types of sponsors, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and proper flow-down of terms.
  • Complex agreements may involve human subjects, international collaboration, and interdisciplinary projects.
  • The Specialist acts as the authorized signatory for certain grant actions and serves as a liaison to the award team and, when needed, to funding organizations for resolving pre-award and post-award issues.
  • The Specialist collaborates with faculty to provide guidance on grant documentation for proposal or award submissions and plays an active role in troubleshooting and training departmental users on relevant systems.
  • This role may require participation in institutional committees and proficiency in using computers, Microsoft Office, and various online systems.

Essential Skills

  • The Specialist must have a solid understanding of research administration compliance, including Responsible Conduct of Research, human subjects, and conflict of interest to identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity and exercise sound judgment is essential.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team is necessary.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in research administration, with at least one year in a sponsored research environment. Familiarity with negotiation principles and grant management is preferred.
  • Additional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Familiarity with negotiation principles, intellectual property management, and technology transfer is advantageous. Experience with relevant software is a plus.
