Position Overview:
At Houston Methodist, the Senior Patient Services Representative plays a pivotal role in managing patient check-in and check-out processes, as well as appointment scheduling, to enhance the overall patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities encompass more intricate scheduling processes and adherence to departmental protocols, while also serving as a mentor and role model for junior staff members. This role ensures timely and precise claims submissions and may involve registration and other revenue cycle activities. Additional duties include providing operational support and executing patient service tasks specific to the department's scope.

People Essential Functions:

  • Fosters a positive workplace environment and collaborates with team members to achieve optimal departmental outcomes.
  • Executes patient check-in and check-out tasks, ensuring accurate scheduling and registration data to facilitate financial clearance.
  • Coordinates patient flow efficiently, addressing any issues that may lead to service delays or denials.
  • Acts as a mentor for less experienced staff, resolving problems as they arise.

Service Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes exceptional communication skills to deliver high-quality service during all interactions with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Contributes to overall satisfaction for patients, employees, and physicians while supporting effective revenue cycle processes.
  • Generates reports and assists with departmental correspondence as needed.

Quality/Safety Essential Functions:

  • Serves as a liaison among patients, medical staff, and third parties to resolve access and service quality issues.
  • Enters patient and operational data into various systems with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensures compliance with patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations when conveying patient information.

Finance Essential Functions:

  • Records information accurately during charge entry, registration, scheduling, and insurance verification to meet financial objectives.
  • Manages time effectively, prioritizing tasks and assisting team members as needed.
  • Utilizes departmental resources efficiently and participates in inventory management.

Growth/Innovation Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates initiative in improving job functions and streamlining processes for better patient flow.
  • Seeks opportunities for continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications:
Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience:
  • Five years of experience, including three years in a related healthcare role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates necessary skills and competencies for the role.
  • Proficient in English for effective communication.
  • Strong customer service and scheduling skills.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues.
