Job Summary

The Automation and Controls Specialist is tasked with spearheading business strategies to enhance growth in automation-related sectors, including but not limited to:

Sales of Schneider Electric and other automation components, such as programmable controllers, I/O devices, safety systems, industrial computers, motor drives, system network design, operational software, and plant maintenance software.

This role involves developing and executing a sales strategy that meets or surpasses established sales targets for both assigned accounts and overall automation sales within the designated area. Responsibilities include providing technical, marketing, and commercial leadership to foster sales growth, supporting the commercial strategy for this business segment, and leading the development of a competency plan to ensure that support functions are well-prepared to maximize market share in the assigned territory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage responsibilities across locations within and around the Austin - San Antonio market.
  • Act as the primary business leader for all of Sonepar's Industrial Automation products and services in the designated area.
  • Effectively communicate the value of Schneider Electric's automation product portfolio and employ outcome-based selling strategies at all customer levels.
  • Oversee annual planning, forecasting, and the execution of business strategies to drive growth and sales performance in the assigned region.
  • Lead the market introduction of new products and services, including:
    • Setting business objectives,
    • Identifying target customers,
    • Driving marketing initiatives, and
    • Coordinating sales efforts.
  • Provide technical, application, and industry training to distributor account managers for core products.
  • Consult with customers on proposals and pricing strategies.
  • Guide customers on the installation and configuration of core products, modernizations, and technology upgrades.
  • Collaborate with Sonepar and Schneider Electric sales teams, specialists, and domain experts to promote core products.
  • Deliver pre-sale and post-sale support.
  • Analyze market trends, business drivers, KPIs, and competitive forces to translate them into customer solutions.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers, understanding their various roles and business drivers.
  • Develop and implement account and territory plans, campaigns, and commercial programs for new and existing business.
  • Act as a trusted partner to Schneider Electric Automation Business Units, providing local market insights and constructive feedback.
  • Engage with Schneider Electric's Business Leaders and Technical Consultants to resolve quality and delivery issues as needed.
  • Create marketing and sales materials relevant to products, services, and solutions for internal, partner, and customer use.
  • Serve as a domain expert for the product portfolio, maintaining and enhancing technical and sales knowledge through training and updates.
  • Lead and support customer-facing technical events.
  • Respond promptly to customer and sales inquiries, including outside of regular business hours.
  • Travel as necessary within the assigned region, including overnight stays and attendance at training and events.
  • Ensure compliance with Sonepar and Schneider Electric vendor policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • 5 years of experience with Schneider Electric automation services, products, and applications, or equivalent experience with competitive solutions.
  • Ability to create professional proposals based on customer specifications and follow approval processes.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to present to groups in English. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze data trends and utilize information for decision-making.
  • Demonstrated professional selling skills, including prospecting, negotiation, and customer relationship management.
  • Ability to identify and understand market trends, competitive forces, and sales opportunities through strategic planning.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement of technical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in outcome-based sales with an understanding of key business drivers for industrial customers.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of automation components and systems, with the ability to communicate product capabilities relevant to customer industries.
