Position Overview:
The Automation Controls Specialist at Tesla will play a pivotal role in the development, execution, and optimization of control systems for Process equipment, including molten metal furnaces and advanced cooling systems. This position requires a strong focus on programming and troubleshooting, ensuring the equipment operates at peak efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in the initial conceptual design of equipment, balancing specifications, process needs, and cost constraints.
- Lead continuous process enhancement initiatives, integrating both advanced and traditional technologies to elevate quality and productivity while minimizing waste.
- Design and layout new industrial electrical control panels compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A standards, alongside creating comprehensive electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics.
- Maintain thorough documentation for all electrical systems and procedures, ensuring updates are made as necessary.
- Implement ANSI/OSHA compliant safety systems to protect high-volume manufacturing equipment, including furnaces and hydraulic systems.
- Optimize human-machine interfaces, SCADA systems, and MES interfaces for improved operational efficiency.
- Architect, develop, and debug PLC code, focusing on maintainability and reusability, while ensuring seamless interaction with subsystems such as pumps, heaters, and valves.
Travel Requirements:
- Willingness to travel for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and equipment installation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in controls engineering.
- Extensive knowledge of PLC programming, particularly with Siemens systems.
- Experience with HMI programming, specifically Ignition 8 and Siemens Tia Portal.
- Familiarity with aluminum foundry processes and electrical standards (NFPA79, National Electric Code, UL508A) as well as safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
- Proficient in selecting circuit protectors, wiring, sensors, and PLC hardware.
