Job Overview
The Principal Engineer within the Projects division serves as a pivotal role, overseeing the engineering teams across various Units, collaborating with Planning & Technology on standards, and providing expert guidance throughout project development until completion.
This position reports to the Director of Substation, Lines, or Integrated Operations, while engaging daily with cross-functional project teams to address project requirements as directed by management.
- Oversee project engineering performance across all phases, including scoping, budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management, design, construction, and project closeout.
- Conduct standard and advanced engineering analyses, designs, and calculations.
- Lead the creation of innovative conceptual designs aligned with Iberdrola Standards, ensuring consistency across all operating entities.
- Guarantee that all engineering designs comply with relevant company, local, state, and national codes and standards.
- Utilize expertise to mentor and guide engineering personnel within the department.
- Provide technical leadership on complex projects that significantly impact the organization.
- Support and develop team members in enhancing their technical capabilities.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the team.
- Coordinate with contractors regarding company policies, standards, and best practices.
- Work autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Extensive theoretical knowledge in Engineering, including Planning, Operations, and Design, with strong analytical and modeling skills.
- Practical experience in Engineering applications, including Planning, Operations, and Construction.
- Proficient in interpreting and documenting engineering specifications.
- Ability to review and validate engineering work to ensure adherence to company standards and contractual obligations.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
- For Smart Grids: Knowledge of Networking, Computer Security, and Databases.
- In-depth understanding of the regulatory landscape, including relevant output and incentive mechanisms.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
- Master's Degree is mandatory.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is essential.
- Professional Engineering License is advantageous.
- Strong focus on personal and team development.
- Ability to foster collaboration and share knowledge.
- Exhibit agility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
