Position Overview

The Financial Controller is responsible for directing financial planning and accounting operations for a real estate organization and its affiliates. This position encompasses managing the monthly closing cycle, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, aiding in the preparation of annual property budgets, and coordinating audits and tax submissions with external CPA firms. The Controller will play a pivotal role in developing and executing policies, procedures, and systems aimed at improving internal efficiency and minimizing reporting timelines while safeguarding the accuracy of financial data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the monthly financial closing process, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash management.
  • Guarantee the timely and precise generation and evaluation of financial reports, communicating outcomes internally and with stakeholders.
  • Assist in the formulation of annual property budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Compile supporting documentation for monthly financial statements, property budgets, annual audits, and tax filings.
  • Establish, document, and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Identify and execute systems or processes to enhance internal efficiency, reduce reporting durations, and ensure data integrity.
  • Supervise accounting personnel and manage the utilization of Yardi for general ledger activities.
  • Establish and oversee the company’s financial reporting IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP standards, regulatory obligations, and partner requirements across all accounts and ledgers.
  • Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Meticulous attention to detail with a strong emphasis on meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
  • Proficient in GAAP, taxation, financial reporting, data analysis, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining organizational structure.
  • A collaborative team player with exceptional prioritization capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Yardi software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with various organizational levels and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Experience in data analysis to provide actionable insights.
  • Knowledgeable about the real estate industry, including construction, commercial, and multi-family properties.
  • Adaptable in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Experience

  • 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in real estate management.

Equipment and Travel

  • This role may require the use of a personal or company vehicle for bank deposits, property inspections, and other responsibilities. Safe driving is essential.
  • Professional attire is expected.
  • Some travel to other company locations may be necessary based on business requirements.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Public accounting audit experience is preferred but not mandatory.
