Position Summary

The Financial Controller is responsible for directing financial management and accounting operations for a real estate organization and its stakeholders. This position encompasses overseeing the monthly closing activities, invoicing, managing accounts receivable and payable, aiding in the preparation of annual property budgets, and coordinating audits and tax submissions with external accounting firms. The Controller will also contribute to the development and execution of policies, procedures, and systems aimed at improving internal efficiencies and minimizing reporting timelines while ensuring the accuracy of financial information.

Primary Duties

  • Oversee the monthly financial closing process, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash management.
  • Guarantee the timely and precise generation and review of financial statements, and communicate outcomes internally and with stakeholders.
  • Assist in the formulation of annual property budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Compile supporting documentation for monthly financial statements, property budgets, annual audits, and tax filings.
  • Establish, document, and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Identify and implement systems or processes to improve internal efficiencies, reduce reporting durations, and ensure data integrity.
  • Supervise accounting personnel and manage the utilization of Yardi for general ledger operations.
  • Establish and oversee the financial reporting IT infrastructure of the organization.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP standards, regulatory obligations, and stakeholder requirements across all accounts and ledgers.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Meticulous attention to detail with a strong emphasis on meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work.
  • Expertise in GAAP, taxation, financial reporting, data analysis, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining organizational effectiveness.
  • A cooperative team member with excellent prioritization abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Yardi software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with various organizational levels and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and strategic thought processes.
  • Experience in data analysis to provide actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with the real estate industry, including construction, commercial, and multi-family properties.
  • Flexible in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Experience Requirements

  • 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in real estate management.

Equipment and Travel Requirements

  • This role may necessitate the use of a personal or company vehicle for bank transactions, property inspections, and other responsibilities. Safe driving practices are essential.
  • Professional attire is mandatory.
  • Occasional travel to various company locations may be required based on business needs.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Experience in public accounting audits is preferred but not mandatory.
