Position Overview
The Financial Controller is responsible for managing the financial planning and accounting operations for a real estate organization and its affiliates. This position entails overseeing the monthly closing activities, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and assisting in the preparation of annual property budgets, as well as coordinating audits and tax submissions with external CPA firms. The Controller will play a key role in developing and executing policies, procedures, and systems aimed at improving internal efficiency and minimizing reporting timelines while ensuring the accuracy of financial data.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the monthly financial closing process, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and cash management.
- Guarantee the timely and precise generation and review of financial statements, and communicate outcomes internally and with stakeholders.
- Assist in the formulation of annual property budgets and financial forecasts.
- Prepare documentation to support monthly financial reports, property budgets, annual audits, and tax filings.
- Establish, document, and maintain effective internal controls.
- Identify and implement processes or systems to enhance internal efficiency, reduce reporting durations, and ensure data integrity.
- Supervise accounting personnel and manage the utilization of Yardi for general ledger operations.
- Develop and oversee the company’s financial reporting IT infrastructure.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP standards, regulatory obligations, and partner requirements across all accounts and ledgers.
- Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Proficient in GAAP, taxation, financial reporting, data analysis, and forecasting methodologies.
- Able to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining organization.
- A collaborative team player with exceptional prioritization capabilities.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and Yardi software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with various organizational levels and external stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking.
- Experience in data analysis to provide actionable insights.
- Knowledgeable about the real estate industry, including construction, commercial, and multi-family properties.
- Adaptable in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
Experience
- 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in real estate management.
Equipment and Travel
- This role may require the use of a personal or company vehicle for banking, property inspections, and other responsibilities. Safe driving is essential.
- Professional attire is expected.
- Some travel to other company locations may be necessary based on business requirements.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- Experience in public accounting audits is preferred but not mandatory.
