Title: Director of Strategic and Centennial Planning

Reports To: Chief of Staff and Public Affairs Officer

Location: Providence, Rhode Island

Employment Type: Full-Time, Temporary

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000

Role Summary:

The Director of Strategic and Centennial Planning is a pivotal leadership position responsible for guiding the formulation and implementation of strategic initiatives and overseeing the centennial celebration for United Way of Rhode Island. This role involves leading interdisciplinary teams, facilitating internal committees, and ensuring that all activities align with the organization's mission and objectives. The Director will allocate approximately 65% of their efforts to strategic planning and 35% to centennial activities, with adaptability as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership in Strategic Planning (65%)

Oversight and Assessment:

  • Direct and support the continuous evaluation and reporting of the strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Research and Data Analytics to manage data collection and analysis for assessing strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports on progress and outcomes for various stakeholders.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and implement strategic modifications to enhance initiatives.

Visioning for the Next Century Strategic Plan:

  • Work alongside executive leadership and stakeholders to develop a visionary strategic plan for the next century.
  • Support research initiatives and analyze trends to inform strategic choices.
  • Facilitate brainstorming sessions and workshops to incorporate diverse stakeholder perspectives into strategic goals.

Engagement with Community and Partners:

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with community leaders and nonprofit partners.
  • Lead community meetings and events to gather insights and foster stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure community input is integral to the strategic planning process.
  • Develop strategies to enhance community and partner involvement in initiatives.

Data-Driven Strategy Development:

  • Oversee the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to strategic efforts.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to track progress toward strategic objectives.
  • Deliver actionable insights to leadership and stakeholders through clear reports and presentations.

Leadership in Centennial Planning (35%)

Campaign Strategy Development:

  • Collaborate with leadership and staff to create a comprehensive plan for the centennial campaign.
  • Support the planning and execution of centennial events in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure successful implementation of centennial activities.

Coordination of Internal Committees:

  • Facilitate the work of internal committees, ensuring compliance with objectives.
  • Guide committee activities to align with the centennial vision.
  • Act as a liaison between committees and leadership for effective communication.

External Partnerships and Representation:

  • Build strategic partnerships with external vendors and sponsors to support centennial initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at public events and community forums.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Lead marketing efforts to promote centennial events and engage stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of centennial activities and refine strategies based on feedback.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, or project management.
  • Proven success in leadership roles managing complex projects.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and management capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management and data visualization tools.
  • Experience in fund development is advantageous.
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
