Job Overview

Position Title: Director of Strategic and Centennial Planning

Reports To: Chief of Staff and Public Affairs Officer

Location: Providence, Rhode Island

Position Type: Full-Time, Temporary

Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000

The Director of Strategic and Centennial Planning is a pivotal leadership position tasked with guiding the formulation and implementation of the United Way of Rhode Island's strategic initiatives and centennial celebrations. This role involves leading interdisciplinary teams, facilitating internal committees, and ensuring that all activities align with the organization's overarching objectives. The Director will dedicate approximately 65% of their efforts to strategic planning and 35% to centennial initiatives, with adaptability as required.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning Leadership (65%)

  • Oversight and Evaluation: Direct the continuous assessment and reporting of the Live United 2025 Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Research and Data Analytics to manage data collection and analysis, evaluating the success of strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare detailed reports on progress, outcomes, and impacts for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancement and implement strategic modifications to improve initiatives and results.

Next Century Strategic Plan Visioning:

  • Work alongside executive leadership and key stakeholders to develop a visionary Next Century Strategic Plan.
  • Support research initiatives and analyze emerging trends to inform strategic choices.
  • Facilitate brainstorming sessions and workshops, ensuring diverse stakeholder input is integrated into strategic goals.

Community and Partner Engagement:

  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with community leaders and nonprofit partners.
  • Lead community meetings and events to gather feedback and enhance stakeholder involvement.
  • Ensure community perspectives are central to the strategic planning process, reflecting the needs of the served populations.
  • Develop strategies to boost partner and community engagement in United Way initiatives.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Oversee the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress toward strategic objectives.
  • Deliver actionable insights to leadership and stakeholders through comprehensive reports and presentations.

Centennial Planning Leadership (35%)

Campaign Strategy and Visioning:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership and board members to create a strategic plan for the Next Century Campaign.
  • Coordinate centennial-related events, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for successful execution of centennial activities.

Internal Committees and Work Groups:

  • Facilitate the work of internal committees, ensuring timely compliance with objectives.
  • Guide committee activities, providing support to align with the centennial vision.
  • Act as a liaison between committees, leadership, and external partners for effective collaboration.

External Partnerships and Representation:

  • Develop partnerships with external vendors and sponsors to support centennial initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at public events and community forums, serving as a spokesperson for the Next Century Campaign.

Communications and Marketing:

  • Direct marketing and communications efforts to promote centennial events and engage stakeholders.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of centennial activities, using feedback to refine strategies.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, community engagement, or project management.
  • Proven success in a leadership role, managing cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations and community development is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and management capabilities, inspiring teams toward strategic goals.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Fund Development experience is advantageous.
  • Bi-lingual or Multi-Lingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits:
