Job Summary

As a Court Deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, you will play a critical role in maintaining order and ensuring the safety of the courthouse complex and adjacent areas. This is a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with a diverse range of people and agencies, and contributing to the efficient operation of the judicial system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide security and support for judicial proceedings, responding to emergency situations and carrying out lawful orders as directed by a judge.
  • Maintain continuous surveillance of the courtroom during court sessions, inspecting courtrooms and conducting searches before and after each session.
  • Assist with inmate transport and movement, and escort inmates as required.
  • Interact with a wide variety of people and agencies, including the general public, attorneys, law enforcement, court clerks, media, and families.
  • Maintain proficiency and qualification with weapons used in the work environment, and monitor radio communications.
  • Resolve and/or diffuse conflicts between parties in the courtrooms, waiting areas, and other facilities, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Monitor evidence in the courtroom, and enforce the law as required.

Requirements
  • Former certified detention or law enforcement deputy of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office with a minimum of 10 years experience, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Possession of a current certification by the State of Florida as a corrections or law enforcement officer.
  • Successful completion of the standard HCSO Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professional demeanor and appearance, strong firearms skills, and prior courthouse experience.
  • Candidates who can submit all required documents and complete the Physical Abilities Assessment (PAA) within 30 days of application.
