Position eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus

The Youth Care Worker (YCW) is responsible for providing direct supervision and care for children placed in a VQ residential environment. This

role is essential in creating a secure atmosphere that promotes learning and behavioral management in a supportive manner, adhering to VQ, local, state, and federal regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Child Supervision and Interaction:
o Ensure direct supervision of children in care, maintaining constant visibility.

o Oversee activities during recreation, meals, and leisure time.

o Build positive relationships with youth, serving as a role model to foster a safe and nurturing environment using a trauma-informed approach.

o Guide and support children in daily living activities, including morning routines, hygiene, housekeeping, meals, sports, academics, and extracurricular activities both on-site and off-site.

o Engage with children through games and recreational activities.

o Conduct orientation and intake processes upon a child's arrival, including paperwork completion and an overview of program services and rules.

o Provide essential items to children, such as clothing and hygiene products, and assist with meal preparation when necessary.

o Help plan and coordinate special educational events, cultural activities, holiday celebrations, recreational outings, and school transportation.

o Assist with children's legal, medical, and dental appointments.

o Support child reunifications.

o Administer over-the-counter and prescribed medications as needed.

Safety and Compliance:
o Maintain a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment by ensuring cleanliness in common areas, restrooms, kitchen, laundry, and outdoor spaces.

o Report maintenance and supply needs promptly.

o Assist in evacuating children during emergencies such as severe weather or natural disasters.

o Document children's progress, behavior, and health while in care.

o Observe, report, and document significant behavior patterns and necessary information for record-keeping, including progress notes and incident reports.

Training and Development:
o Assist in training new hires regarding their responsibilities within VQ Inc.

o Participate in departmental and mandatory training sessions as required.

o Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety protocols.

  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in child welfare or a related social service setting working with children or adolescents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clear tuberculosis test results.
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Proof of required vaccinations.
  • Successful background checks, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI checks.

  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility to drive as required for program services.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds infrequently.

  • Tasks may involve standing or walking 50% of the time and sitting 50% of the time.
  • May require bending, stooping, reaching, and grasping as necessary.
  • Must be capable of providing First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in Crisis Prevention Intervention training (CPI).
