Role Summary
We are in search of a driven individual to join our elite algorithm team within the Inspection Business Unit (IBU). The ideal candidate will possess the ability to integrate their knowledge of complex hardware/software systems, customer requirements, and algorithmic strategies to determine the most effective methods for achieving performance and throughput goals.

Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will leverage their expertise in machine learning, image processing, computer vision, mathematics, optics, and software engineering to craft algorithms for integration into Onto's state-of-the-art inspection platforms. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing optical imaging modeling and calibration.
  • Creating image segmentation, classification, or detection algorithms for Onto's inspection systems.
  • Providing innovative ideas and developing production-level code.
  • Offering support as necessary and making recommendations to the hardware team regarding image quality and error budgets based on algorithm design and performance.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in delivering solutions that utilize machine learning algorithms, particularly in compute-constrained environments. Strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential. The candidate is expected to remain informed about the latest academic research and industry practices in machine vision inspection, image processing, and machine learning.

Technical Skills
Proficiency in at least one numerically focused programming environment such as Python or Matlab, utilizing native libraries for linear algebra, image processing, and machine learning is required. Experience in deploying algorithms using traditional programming languages such as C, C++, C#, and CUDA is also essential.

Educational Background
A PhD, MS, or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field is required. Candidates with a Doctorate should have 0 years of related work experience; those with a Master's degree should have 3 years of relevant experience; and Bachelor's degree holders should have 5 years of related experience.
