Position Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Automation Controls Engineer to join our team at Catapult Staffing. This role demands a proven track record in delivering automation solutions utilizing PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA technologies.

The Lead Automation Controls Engineer will engage directly with clients, guiding a team of engineers to ascertain requirements, formulate specifications, and execute/testing/commissioning/qualifying automation solutions.

This role is pivotal within the organization, necessitating strong analytical skills, effective project management capabilities, interpersonal skills, a focus on operational efficiency, and a commitment to fostering collaborative relationships.

Success in this position is measured by the ability to secure ongoing projects with both new and existing clients.


Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering innovative automation solutions and design standards, either independently or as a team leader.
  • Conceptualizing, detailing, and implementing control systems for industrial processes and machinery that align with client specifications.
  • Developing control system architecture, selecting appropriate components, detailing schematic diagrams, and preparing system documentation.
  • Programming controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU) and process visualization (HMI/SCADA), as well as developing databases for historical data management.
  • Implementing and commissioning control systems at client facilities.
  • Utilizing programming languages such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, and Structured Text to achieve project objectives.
  • Applying knowledge of standard programming languages (e.g., VBA, .NET, SQL) for HMI/SCADA system development.
  • Designing and implementing various communication systems using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Managing project execution plans, budgets, scheduling, and reporting to ensure project profitability.
  • Overseeing daily operations and activities of projects, ensuring effective team leadership and support.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in automation engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA systems (e.g., GE iFIX, Rockwell FactoryTalk View).
  • Familiarity with DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV) and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and leading engineering teams.
  • Proven expertise in managing automation projects within the Life Sciences sector.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and validation processes in the life sciences industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Additional Information:

Travel: Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform tasks requiring visual acuity, manual dexterity, and mobility.

Work Environment: A mix of standard office settings and diverse industrial environments.
