Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer for our Wilmington, MA office. This role demands proven expertise in delivering automation solutions utilizing PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Controls Engineer will engage directly with clients and lead a team of WM engineers to:

  • Identify client requirements and develop comprehensive specifications.
  • Implement, test, and qualify automation solutions.

This leadership position necessitates strong problem-solving skills, effective project management capabilities, and the ability to foster productive relationships. Success in this role is measured by the ability to secure repeat business from both new and existing clients.

Core Duties Include:
The ability to provide innovative automation solutions and design standards, either independently or as a team leader. The ideal candidate will:

  • Conceptualize, detail, and execute control systems for industrial applications that align with client specifications.
  • Develop control system architectures, select appropriate components, and create detailed schematic diagrams and system documentation.
  • Program controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU) and process visualization systems (HMI/SCADA).
  • Develop databases for historical data archiving and display.
  • Oversee the implementation and commissioning of control systems at client facilities.

Knowledge of programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Chart, and Structured Text is essential. Familiarity with standard programming languages like VBA, .NET, and SQL for HMI/SCADA system development is preferred.

Experience with industrial networking to connect control system components and instrumentation is advantageous. The Senior Controls Engineer will design and implement various communication systems using industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus.

Project Management Responsibilities:
This role often entails managing project execution plans, developing work breakdown structures, and overseeing budgets. Responsibilities also include:

  • Task prioritization and scheduling.
  • Financial tracking and reporting.
  • Conflict management and resolution.
  • Leading and supporting project teams.

The Senior Controls Engineer will ensure the overall profitability of projects, which may reach up to $1M.

Qualifications:
Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science is required.

Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience is preferred, with capabilities in:

  • In-depth knowledge of PLC hardware/software platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Modicon.
  • Expertise in HMI/SCADA platforms including GE iFIX and Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View.
  • Familiarity with DCS platforms like Emerson DeltaV.
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and power distribution.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and leading engineering teams.
  • Proven track record in managing automation projects in the Life Science sector.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to see, hear, speak clearly, and perform manual tasks. The role may require travel up to 25%.

This position will involve a standard office setting, on-site environments, and diverse industrial settings, with frequent use of computers and communication devices.
