Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrician 2 to join our team at the Ohio Department of Commerce. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and train lower-level electricians and incarcerated individuals in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment, including motors, appliances, fans, transformers, heating and cooling equipment, fire and other alarm/security systems, elevators, and switches.
  • Determine and complete materials needed, cost estimates, and submit requests to purchase.
  • Read blueprints and/or schematic diagrams and maintain inventory of electrical supplies.
  • Maintain tool count of tools used by incarcerated individuals and complete tool control forms daily.
  • Perform other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties, including semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC, and security functions.
  • Ensure compliance with security regulations and install, troubleshoot, test, modify, and/or maintain basic telecommunications and/or electronic data processing equipment in an institutional setting.
  • Serve on institutional committees and attend training, seminars, and meetings.
Requirements
  • 18 months of training or 18 months of verifiable experience in electrical work under the supervision of an experienced electrician.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and in reading and writing common English vocabulary.
  • Or 6 months of experience as an Electrician 1, or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment.
