POSITION SUMMARY

LearningWorks Afterschool is dedicated to supporting students in grades Pre-K through 5th who are academically underperforming. Our program focuses on engaging students through hands-on challenges in engineering that integrate literacy, mathematics, and social-emotional learning, fostering essential skills for academic success, including confidence, initiative, problem-solving, communication, and perseverance.

The Educational Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in organizing and executing a four-day-a-week program centered around a comprehensive Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum, along with enrichment activities that promote health, wellness, and cultural awareness. This position also entails overseeing daily communication with families and students, managing schedules, and supervising a small team of educators and volunteers. This is a part-time role that combines coordination and teaching responsibilities.

In addition to live program hours, time is allocated for meetings, planning, and professional development. This is a part-time, fixed-term summer position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with LearningWorks Directors and school personnel during the enrollment and registration process.
  • Oversee the daily execution and instruction of an in-person STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities, with support from LearningWorks Site Directors.
  • Maintain communication with parents, volunteers, and school staff regarding student enrollment, schedules, participation, behavior, and progress, while promoting program visibility and family events.
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and organized learning environment for students and staff.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, actively supporting and inspiring them in making healthy lifestyle choices (personal, social, and academic). Assist with behavioral challenges as necessary.
  • Utilize effective practices to maintain consistent student attendance and meet enrollment and attendance goals set by grants.
  • Keep accurate and timely records of attendance, meal counts, program activities, student records, team meetings, and other data as requested by the Director.
  • Assist in the development of enrichment activities, schedules, and curriculum in collaboration with LearningWorks Directors.
  • Supervise a team of educators, teaching assistants, and volunteers.
  • Lead weekly team meetings to discuss program delivery needs, reflections, and improvement goals.
  • Be accessible for communication from students, families, and team members via phone and email during program hours, and regularly monitor a LearningWorks email account and voicemail.
  • Assist in organizing family and public events, presentations, partner activities, and special guests.
  • Conduct oneself professionally at all times, adhering to program expectations, online safety, and learning guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • State of Maine Teaching Certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • BA or BS degree in Education or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE + SKILLS
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience with elementary-aged children.
  • A minimum of 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and low-performing populations is preferred. Experience with English Language Learners is a plus for certain sites.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Significant experience with various technologies, including but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook, Slack, Google Drive Suite, Zoom, and See Saw.
  • Some experience with remote or blended academic program planning and delivery is preferred.
  • Flexibility, thoughtfulness, and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • A growth mindset and willingness to learn and apply innovative educational platforms and approaches.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
