POSITION SUMMARY

LearningWorks AfterSchool is dedicated to supporting students who face academic challenges in grades Pre-K through 5th. Our program is designed to engage students through interactive engineering design challenges that integrate literacy, mathematics, and social-emotional learning, fostering essential skills for academic success, including confidence, initiative, problem-solving, communication, and resilience.

The Educational Support Specialist will assist educators and program coordinators in delivering a 4-day program centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum, along with enrichment activities that promote health, wellness, and social-emotional learning.

In addition to direct program involvement, the role includes participation in pre-program planning sessions and professional development opportunities. This is a part-time, fixed-term summer role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with a team to design and implement remote or in-person STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities that align with students' prior knowledge and interests, as well as the school-day curriculum.
  • Support instructional delivery under the guidance of LearningWorks Site Directors, adhering to all safety and health protocols.
  • Create a physically and emotionally secure, structured, and organized learning environment for students.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, actively encouraging and modeling healthy lifestyle choices (personal, social, and academic). Assist with behavioral challenges as necessary.
  • Reinforce clear and positive expectations for learning and behavior that complement those of the elementary school.
  • Utilize best practices to achieve grant objectives and reflect the mission of the program.
  • Engage in weekly team meetings to discuss program delivery, needs, reflections, and goals for improvement.
  • Participate in mandatory professional development training.
  • Monitor communication platforms regularly and respond promptly to communications from Directors, Coordinators, and team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator or Directors.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times, in accordance with program expectations and learning guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • State of Maine Ed Tech Certification or demonstrated experience and capability
  • Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Education or a related field preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Experience working with youth, particularly elementary-aged children, is preferred.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for learning and a passion for inspiring children.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and underperforming populations is preferred. Experience with English Language Learners is also advantageous.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in various technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, and Zoom.
  • Flexibility, thoughtfulness, and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • A growth mindset and a willingness to learn and apply innovative educational methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
