Position Overview:

The Custodial Service Specialist plays a vital role within The Kennedy Center's Janitorial Services Division, delivering essential cleaning and sanitization services to our government clients. This position involves independently maintaining cleanliness in designated areas of various facilities using industry-standard techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough cleaning of building facilities, including restrooms, office spaces, communal areas, staircases, windows, shelving, doors, auditoriums, classrooms, kitchens, and cafeterias, as outlined in the scope of work.
  • Execute cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, buffing floors, stripping and waxing floors, emptying waste and recycling bins, and cleaning commonly used surfaces and appliances.
  • Perform exterior maintenance duties, which may include snow removal, sanding walkways, and collecting outside waste.
  • Operate industrial cleaning equipment, including scrubbers, burnishers, power washers, and snow removal tools.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with all contract specifications.
  • Maintain and restock cleaning supplies and materials as needed.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned to meet contract obligations.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: One year of experience in custodial or maintenance roles.
  • Ability to work in diverse environments and under varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
  • Strong ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive federal and state background check.
  • May require passing a Department of Defense Federal Clearance Check based on assignment.
  • Possession of a vehicle during shifts may be necessary for travel to different work locations.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to handle and utilize equipment and materials, which often involves lifting, carrying, and stooping.
  • Regularly move weights up to 30 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
