Senior Underwriting Manager with Direct Reports

Chubb's Real Estate & Hospitality Industry Practice is on the lookout for a qualified candidate to assume the role of Senior Underwriting Manager, Team Supervisor. This position entails overseeing a portfolio of accounts while directly mentoring and guiding a team of two to three underwriters. The individual will report to the Vice President of Underwriting Management.

Our industry practice is integrated within Chubb Major Accounts, providing tailored primary guaranteed cost and intricate loss-sensitive programs designed to meet our clients' unique business requirements and operational frameworks. The primary lines of business include Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Commercial Automobile. We collaborate with specialized property and umbrella underwriters to develop sustainable solutions for our clientele.

The Senior Underwriting Manager is responsible for training and mentoring less experienced underwriters, ensuring the achievement of collective team objectives, which include managing an assigned renewal portfolio per underwriter, targeting new accounts, driving new business production, fostering relationships with brokers, agents, and clients, as well as overseeing the training and development of the underwriting team. Additionally, this role involves assisting the management team with financial data tracking, analysis, and reporting.

Key responsibilities and functions include:

  • Overseeing the underwriting process to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and procedures, while adhering to external requirements set by producers and/or clients.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to underwriting staff.
  • Coordinating internal resources and influencing outcomes to achieve desired results on a per-account basis, as well as for the overall portfolio.
  • Acting as a primary contact to establish, nurture, and manage relationships with customers and producers, including regular visits.
  • Assisting with agency and territory planning and goal-setting, including monitoring progress.
  • Identifying target accounts and cross-selling opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Engaging with renewal clients as part of a Chubb team to deliver sales presentations and negotiate coverage, pricing, financial terms, and service delivery.
  • Collaborating in a team environment with Underwriters, Actuaries, Loss Control, Claims, and Operations.
  • Meeting service standards aligned with a customer-focused strategy.
  • Gathering and sharing competitor insights with the team.
