Senior Underwriter with Leadership Responsibilities

Chubb's Real Estate & Hospitality Industry Practice is looking for a qualified candidate to assume the role of Senior Underwriting Manager in our New York office. This position involves overseeing a portfolio of accounts while directly supervising and mentoring a team of two to three underwriters. The selected individual will report to the Vice President of Underwriting Management.

Our industry practice is integrated within Chubb Major Accounts, providing tailored primary guaranteed cost and intricate loss-sensitive programs that align with our clients' operational needs. The primary lines of business include Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Commercial Automobile. We collaborate with specialized property and umbrella underwriters to develop sustainable solutions for our clientele.

The Senior Underwriting Manager is expected to train and mentor less experienced underwriters, ensuring the achievement of collective team objectives, which include managing an assigned renewal portfolio, targeting new accounts, generating new business, and fostering relationships with brokers, agents, and clients. Additionally, this role will involve assisting the management team with financial tracking, analysis, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the underwriting process to ensure compliance with internal guidelines and timely execution, while adhering to external requirements set by producers and clients.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to underwriting staff.
  • Coordinate internal resources and influence outcomes to achieve desired results on a per-account basis, as well as for the overall portfolio.
  • Act as a primary contact to establish, maintain, and manage relationships with customers and producers, including regular visits.
  • Assist in agency and territory planning, including monitoring progress towards goals.
  • Identify target accounts and cross-selling opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Engage with renewal clients as part of a Chubb team to deliver sales presentations and negotiate coverage, pricing, financial terms, and service delivery.
  • Collaborate in a team environment with Underwriters, Actuaries, Loss Control, Claims, and Operations.
  • Meet service standards aligned with a customer-focused strategy.
  • Gather and share competitive intelligence with the team.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 4+ years of underwriting experience, particularly in primary casualty
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong presentation and public speaking abilities
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Established relationships within the broker and insurance marketplace
  • Comprehensive understanding of current insurance market conditions
  • Knowledge of organizational and regulatory compliance, with the ability to adhere to underwriting authority
  • Familiarity with Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability Insurance coverage, including ISO AL & GL and NCCI Workers Compensation forms and endorsements
  • Understanding of guaranteed cost and large deductible programs, including credit and collateral implications
  • Ability to identify risk exposures, assess hazards, and implement appropriate controls, along with analyzing claims and loss trends
The compensation range for this role is $92,500 to $158,000, with specific offers based on the applicant's skills and other relevant factors.
