Seattle, Washington, United States AngelList Full time

About Belltower Fund Group:

Belltower was established as AngelList's dedicated fund administration service and transitioned to an independent entity at the end of 2023. We specialize in providing comprehensive fund administration solutions tailored for the venture capital sector. Our expertise encompasses a wide range of services, from managing syndicates to venture funds and innovative rolling funds. Our all-inclusive fund management services simplify the complexities of fund operations by integrating financial reporting, tax compliance, portfolio management, and other essential services that fund managers typically coordinate with multiple vendors. Our offerings, combined with AngelList's advanced software, empower us to efficiently launch and scale funds, allowing managers to concentrate on their core competency: investing.

Since our inception, Belltower has supported over 20,000 funds, managing assets exceeding $16 billion, utilizing AngelList's fund administration software to enhance the service layer for funds initiated on the AngelList platform.

About the Role:

The Senior Manager of Fund Accounting plays a pivotal role within our team, overseeing the accounting, valuation, and reporting functions for more than 10,000 funds managed through the AngelList platform. This position is integral to a team that handles intricate fund accounting tasks, balancing automation with manual processes that are yet to be automated. The Senior Manager will address exceptions, respond to investor inquiries, and investigate new technical challenges.

This role reports to the Fund Accounting Director and collaborates closely with fellow fund accounting team members and cross-functional operations teams. You will be responsible for managing the production of financial reporting deliverables for funds while ensuring precise accounting updates, including investment valuations, resolving discrepancies, addressing investor inquiries, and exploring new technical issues. The position involves direct interaction with fund leads, investors, external auditors, and other stakeholders.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Oversee critical team processes to ensure accurate accounting and reporting for investment companies.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including descriptions, matrices, and flowcharts related to key processes and controls.
  • Establish and manage processes for onboarding new clients from existing administrators and service providers.
  • Engage with external auditors to ensure timely completion of fund audits.
  • Supervise portfolio company events and data analysis, determining appropriate valuation actions for each investment.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP accounting standards for funds, particularly ASC 946 and ASC 820, while evaluating special situations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance automation efforts.

Your Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of experience in investment company accounting, with a strong academic background and a CPA license (preferred).
  • Experience in public accounting and/or in a fund administration or investment advisory role focused on fund accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, especially ASC 946 and ASC 820.
  • Extensive experience in preparing financial statements for investment companies/funds, including drafting footnotes.
  • A proven track record of enhancing financial reporting control environments and managing SOC 1 report processes.
  • Experience in preparing materials for and coordinating with external auditors.
  • A strong commitment to success, self-motivation, and proactive engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with portfolio companies and lead investors.

If you do not meet every requirement, we still encourage you to consider applying. We are committed to building a diverse team whose skills complement one another.
