Key Responsibilities of a Youth Support Specialist:

Act as a positive role model for youth, providing guidance, coaching, training, and supervision within a supportive and healthy relationship. This role will involve direct engagement with the GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program, an evidence-based initiative designed to prevent gang involvement and youth violence through school-based curricula led by law enforcement officers.

Core Duties Include:

  • Assisting youth in developing interpersonal, communication, social, and problem-solving skills, along with age-appropriate behaviors and constructive leisure activities.
  • Planning and supervising recreational and social events based on collaboratively established goals with youth, parents, and placing agencies.
  • Exhibiting sensitivity to the needs of youth, maintaining flexibility, and respecting their autonomy, confidentiality, socio-cultural values, personal aspirations, lifestyle choices, and family dynamics, while upholding professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Providing the agreed-upon hours of service as contracted by the placing agency.
  • Documenting session progress notes for each interaction and submitting them to the supervisor as required.
  • Participating in FAPT, treatment team, or family engagement meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Maintaining current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • Ensuring a driving record that meets the standards set by Elk Hill.
  • Holding liability coverage on a personal auto insurance policy at the level required by Elk Hill.
  • Engaging in face-to-face supervision with the supervisor at least once a month.
  • Collaborating with all Elk Hill staff to enhance the overall quality of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Experience working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Willingness to travel and work during non-traditional hours.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity in interactions with youth, families, colleagues, and agency personnel.
