Key Responsibilities of a Youth Support Specialist:

Act as a positive influence for youth, providing guidance, coaching, and supervision within a constructive and nurturing relationship. This role will involve direct engagement with the GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) program, an evidence-based initiative designed to prevent gang involvement and youth violence through structured educational curricula.

Core Duties Include:

  • Assisting youth in developing essential interpersonal, communication, social, and problem-solving skills, along with appropriate behaviors and productive leisure activities.
  • Planning and overseeing recreational and social events tailored to the objectives set collaboratively with youth, families, and referral agencies.
  • Exhibiting sensitivity to the diverse needs of youth, demonstrating flexibility, respect for autonomy, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
  • Delivering the contracted hours as stipulated by the referral agency.
  • Documenting session progress and submitting reports to supervisors as required.
  • Participating in meetings with treatment teams or family engagement sessions as requested.
  • Maintaining current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • Ensuring a driving record that meets organizational standards.
  • Holding adequate liability coverage on personal auto insurance as required.
  • Engaging in monthly face-to-face supervision with a designated supervisor.
  • Collaborating with all Elk Hill staff to enhance the overall quality of the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently without direct oversight.
  • Experience in working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Willingness to travel and work during non-traditional hours.
  • Demonstrated integrity in interactions with youth, families, colleagues, and agency representatives.
