Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Optical Scientist to join our team at Meta's Reality Labs Research. As an Optical Scientist, you will be responsible for designing, modeling, and prototyping advanced optical systems for near-to-eye display applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Software Models: Create software models in Python/MATLAB, FRED, and other analysis platforms to predict and optimize full AR display system performance.
  • Algorithm Development: Develop and refine algorithms to correct for non-uniformity in AR displays.
  • Performance Optimization: Resolve discrepancies between display model predictions and measured performance data.
  • Novel Concepts: Develop novel concepts and technologies for next-generation AR displays.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage cross-functionally with researchers and engineers to explore innovative concepts that advance the entire pipeline (hardware, software, integration, infrastructure, and applications).
Requirements
  • Education: Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant technical field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
  • Knowledge: General knowledge of optics, including imaging, illumination, radiometry, and colorimetry, physical and geometrical optics, and polarization.
  • Optical Modeling Tools: Knowledge of one or more optical modeling tools (e.g., FRED, LightTools, Zemax, CODE V).
  • Optics Technologies: 3+ years of experience with optics technologies, including physical optics, computational optics, holography, display optics, imaging, illumination, stray light analysis, radiometry, and photometry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Software Configuration Management: Experience with software configuration management systems such as Github.
  • AR Displays: Experience with AR displays.
  • Complex Systems: Experience in developing complex systems involving optics and mechanics.
  • Research Experience: Proven track record of achieving results, as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, and first-authored publications at workshops or conferences.
  • Team Collaboration: Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
