Job Overview

Thompson Engineering is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. This role is essential for overseeing and executing a variety of geotechnical projects, ranging from small-scale to large-scale endeavors.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for leading project teams, ensuring the technical quality of work, and engaging in various engineering tasks that support infrastructure, transportation, and heavy industrial projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting field investigations and geotechnical analyses, providing recommendations, and developing plans and specifications.
  • Reviewing construction drawings to ensure adherence to established plans and specifications.
  • Preparing project proposals, cost estimates, and tracking project progress while managing budgets and suggesting necessary adjustments.
  • Identifying and resolving design and construction challenges.
  • Evaluating laboratory and field data for report inclusion and ensuring quality control.
  • Communicating complex engineering concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction for both routine and complex engineering projects.
  • Conceptualize initial designs and investigative approaches for significant project phases.
  • Plan and coordinate engineering work, addressing conventional practices and complex design requirements.
  • Review projects that require innovative investigation techniques and supervise the formulation of recommendations in client reports.
  • Lead technical training initiatives and make informed decisions based on current technology trends.
  • Drive marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff on project assignments.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
  2. 15 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
  3. Registered Professional Engineer (PE).

Physical Requirements:

  1. Flexibility to work varied schedules and overtime as required.
  2. Ability to operate a computer and remain seated for extended periods.
  3. Possession of a valid driver's license.
