Community Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Southeast Area On-Grounds Adult Residential Program is in search of a dedicated professional capable of fostering therapeutic relationships with individuals receiving services. The goal is to assist in crafting meaningful Community Service Plans that align with their personal aspirations.
A professional demeanor and consistent performance are paramount. Accurate documentation of client progress and effective communication are essential responsibilities.
Employing a Person-Centered and Trauma-Informed approach is crucial in creating an environment conducive to personal growth and overcoming obstacles.
Work Schedule:
The selected candidate will engage in a full-time role, working 40 hours per week during the second shift, from 2:45 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., with days off on Wednesday and Thursday.
Key Responsibilities:
These duties are not exhaustive but include:
- Acting as the primary advocate by providing direct, one-on-one support to assigned individuals, assisting them in all aspects of their Community Service Plan.
- Maintaining thorough records to ensure compliance with DMH regulations and procedures.
- Adhering to MAP policies to guarantee safe medication administration.
- Supporting individuals in developing independent living skills, including personal hygiene, cooking, and nutrition, utilizing motivational interviewing and counseling techniques.
- Facilitating recreational, educational, and health-related activities to enhance quality of life.
- Encouraging emotional growth and stability through the implementation of Safety and Crisis Plans.
- Providing comprehensive reports to the incoming shift and ensuring effective communication for continuity of care.
- Conducting ongoing maintenance of the facility to meet required standards.
- Upholding a respectful and professional demeanor in all interactions with clients, families, and colleagues.
- Ensuring an environment that respects privacy and the rights of individuals served.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess:
- The ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Strong observational and questioning skills for information gathering.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- The capability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
Special Requirements:
In accordance with the agreement between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and AFSCME/Council 93, employees in units utilizing the Medication Administration Program (MAP) must achieve MAP certification within six months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or knowledge in human services, MAP certification, familiarity with DMH regulations, and experience with individuals facing serious mental health challenges are advantageous. Bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
