Over 30% of our students communicate in a language other than English at home, reflecting the rich tapestry of cultures represented in our community. The music therapist plays a vital role in this interdisciplinary team, delivering evidence-based music therapy services that target mental health, social/emotional development, cognitive skills, communication, and physical goals for our students.


Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, culturally attuned, trauma-informed, and client-centered individual and group music therapy sessions.
Collaborate with students, educators, interdisciplinary teams, and families to establish clinical objectives.
Maintain thorough documentation, including intakes, assessments, progress notes, and annual reports as necessary.
Design and implement music therapy interventions aimed at helping students:
• Manage stress and anxiety
• Enhance emotional regulation and impulse control
• Improve classroom engagement
• Foster social connections and reduce isolation
• Mitigate undesired behaviors
• Boost cognitive abilities and academic success
• Encourage self-expression and self-awareness
• Increase motivation and participation in school activities

Additional Responsibilities:
Facilitate whole-class drop-in sessions centered around monthly social-emotional learning themes and provide classroom support as needed.
Conduct periodic music wellness sessions for faculty and staff to promote well-being and community spirit.
Offer in-service training to staff and families to enhance understanding of music therapy and its benefits within our educational framework.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
As the prospective Music Therapy Counselor, you will ideally possess many of the following qualifications:
• MT-BC (Music Therapy Board Certification) is required.
• Master’s Degree in music therapy, mental health counseling, or a related field.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to effectively plan, facilitate, and document music therapy sessions.
• Proficiency in clinical improvisation, voice, guitar, keyboard, music technology, and songwriting.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, educators, staff, administrators, families, and community partners.
• Experience in school-based music therapy.
• Capability to transport and manage instruments and accessories weighing up to 20 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Multilingual abilities are advantageous but not mandatory (Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole).
• Experience supervising music therapy interns and practicum students.
• LMHC licensed or in the process of obtaining licensure.
