Job Overview:

This is a temporary role within the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. Upon selection, the chosen candidate will be required to sign a Temporary Employment Agreement.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Texas Works Advisor I (TWA I) / Medical Eligibility Specialist I (MES I) / Hospital Base Worker I (HBW I), you will receive paid, formal training to perform the following key responsibilities:

Conduct interviews with applicants and recipients in person or via telephone to gather relevant financial and personal information to assess eligibility for public assistance programs.


Analyze data from various electronic and other sources to input information into a computer-based eligibility system.

Calculate and authorize benefits based on eligibility assessments.

Process work in compliance with state and federal regulations, established procedures, guidelines, and timelines.

Execute additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Utilize fact-finding techniques to gather, relate, and evaluate information provided by applicants.

Read, comprehend, apply, and explain detailed regulations and policies.

Perform basic arithmetic functions.

Manage time effectively by prioritizing tasks according to deadlines.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Operate computers for data entry and basic office software applications such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Follow written and oral instructions.
