Position Summary

A Cost Estimator at Bergelectric is tasked with determining the financial requirements for electrical construction projects. This involves a thorough examination of project documentation to formulate precise, competitive, and profitable bid proposals for various national electrical initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and assess project plans, specifications, and bid documents to ascertain project needs and develop comprehensive bid proposals.
  • Calculate the costs associated with electrical construction by scrutinizing relevant documentation.
  • Evaluate projects for potential value engineering opportunities, considering specific job conditions that may influence labor and material costs.
  • Identify discrepancies, conflicts, and other issues within bid documents.
  • Devise strategies to enhance bid competitiveness.
  • Proactively anticipate challenges and formulate effective solutions.
  • Prepare Requests for Information (RFI) as necessary.
  • Solicit quotes for materials and equipment from suppliers and vendors.
  • Review quotes to ensure compliance with requests and verify their accuracy.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with vendors.
  • Compile bid documents, including detailed scope letters, Blue Sheets, and Evaluations, adjusting for buy-outs, labor rates, and productivity metrics.
  • Assist in formulating budget pricing.
  • Participate in estimating and sales meetings, as well as project discussions to update bid status and address any issues.
  • Conduct site visits to observe field conditions that may impact construction, bidding, or pre-construction designs.
  • Keep all stakeholders, including management, project teams, clients, and general contractors, informed about bid progress.
  • Oversee preconstruction activities during the design phase for design-build and design-assist projects.
  • Support turnover meetings with the operations team upon project award.
  • Contribute to project pursuits and interviews as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical estimating for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Experience with projects valued at $5 million and above.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with Accubid and Accubid LiveCount is advantageous.
