Crisis Intervention Peer Support Specialist

This role offers opportunities across various shifts, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
The Lakes Region Mental Health Center is seeking a dedicated full-time Peer Support Specialist to become an integral part of our Mobile Crisis Response Team. The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for establishing meaningful and trusting connections with clients, serving as a mentor, and empowering individuals to advocate for their own needs through shared experiences. This role exemplifies recovery possibilities and collaborates within a multidisciplinary team.
Core Duties Include:
- Collaborating effectively within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team that employs a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches to assist individuals facing mental health and substance use challenges.
- Utilizing personal life experiences to engage individuals in crisis, facilitate access to services and supports, and aid in the creation of personalized recovery plans.
- Advocating for self-care, illness management, and overall wellness and recovery.
- Working alongside external organizations, including hospitals, community agencies, and emergency responders.
- Completing necessary documentation and actively participating in team discussions.
- Performing additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory; a relevant degree is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound clinical judgment in various clinical situations.
- Personal experience with mental health challenges and the capacity to fulfill the essential job requirements are essential.
- This position demands a high degree of professionalism and ethical conduct.
- Ability to work sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures is crucial.
- Effective communication skills with peers, supervisors, and support personnel are required.
- Maintaining all necessary documentation in a complete and timely manner while adhering to HIPAA regulations is expected.
- Preferred qualifications include certification as a Peer Specialist or Recovery Coach.
- A valid driver's license and auto insurance are required.
