Peer Counselor

Brockton Area Multi-Servi is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Counselor to join our team in providing breastfeeding support to WIC mothers. As a Peer Counselor, you will play a vital role in promoting breastfeeding education and support to our clients.

1. Attend Breastfeeding Training Classes: Participate in comprehensive training sessions to become a certified Peer Counselor and gain in-depth knowledge of breastfeeding best practices.
2. Support WIC Mothers: Provide one-on-one support and guidance to WIC mothers, addressing their breastfeeding concerns and challenges.
3. Communicate Effectively: Develop strong communication skills to effectively engage with clients, colleagues, and community partners.
4. Collaborate with WIC Staff: Work closely with WIC staff to ensure seamless support and referrals for clients.
5. Facilitate Group Sessions: Organize and lead group sessions to promote breastfeeding education and support among WIC mothers.
6. Maintain Accurate Records: Ensure timely and accurate documentation of client interactions and support provided.
7. Participate in Staff Meetings: Regularly attend staff meetings to stay informed about program updates and best practices.

• Experience with Breastfeeding: Past or current experience breastfeeding at least one baby and past or current WIC participation.
• Language Skills: Ability to communicate in English and Cape Verdean Creole/Portuguese.
• Professional Manner: Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Physical Abilities: Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 10 pounds.
