We are excited to announce an opening for a Safety and Environmental Compliance Specialist to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in risk mitigation, fostering a safe workplace, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. This position involves the planning, execution, and enforcement of our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the development and coordination of innovative safety programs (Operational Safety Excellence).
  • Review and update existing safety protocols to align with current OSHA regulations (lockout-tagout, PPE, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel as required (up to 50% of the time).
  • Conduct hazard safety analyses and communicate mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze accident and incident reports, providing recommendations for enhancements.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations across facilities.
  • Facilitate daily safety meetings and audits.
  • Perform weekly inspections of eye wash stations, ladders, and other critical areas.
  • Conduct monthly inspections for potentially hazardous waste management.
  • Collaborate with Plant and Manufacturing Managers to cultivate a robust safety culture.
  • Oversee plant security and document nightly shutdown procedures.
  • Review daily processes and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Prepare safety reports for any incidents.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of work areas.
  • Lead initiatives for plant cleanliness and recycling.
  • Execute internal and external safety audits to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Manage the forklift training program across various facilities.
  • Implement and document a hearing assessment program.
  • Develop, document, and lead a hazardous waste management program.
  • Assist in understanding local, state, and OSHA requirements relevant to operations.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations, along with manufacturing safety programs.
  • In-depth understanding of EHS requirements and health and safety regulations essential for employee safety.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with operators and business leaders at all levels.
  • Ability to prepare analytical business cases with a structured approach is advantageous.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing business needs.
  • Familiarity with Lean methodologies (5S, VSM, Flow, Takt time, line balancing) is a plus.
  • Project management skills and training are beneficial.
  • Knowledge of ESG programs is an advantage.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Ergonomic training is beneficial.
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training is a plus.
  • Certifications such as RCRA, NFPA 70e, CIH, CSP, ASP, OHST, CHMM, CHST, CHMP are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma tools is a plus.
