About the Role:

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard I - Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our aquatic team, you will be responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for members and guests.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or local and state health department code.
  • Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
  • Attend all staff meetings and monthly in-service training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (If not YMCA MUST be crossed over in first 60 days).
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner to safety and emergency situations.
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Physically perform all skills required of a Lifeguard. Hear noises and distress signals in the Aquatic environment, remain alert with no lapses of consciousness and be able to see and observe all areas of responsibility.

Employment Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
