About the Role:
The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lifeguard I - Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our aquatic team, you will be responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for members and guests.
- Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas.
- Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
- Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or local and state health department code.
- Assist as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
- Attend all staff meetings and monthly in-service training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum age of 16.
- Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (If not YMCA MUST be crossed over in first 60 days).
- Ability to respond in a timely manner to safety and emergency situations.
- Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Physically perform all skills required of a Lifeguard. Hear noises and distress signals in the Aquatic environment, remain alert with no lapses of consciousness and be able to see and observe all areas of responsibility.
Employment Requirements:
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check including Criminal Record check, Drug Screening and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
