Purpose of the Role

The EHS Manager is tasked with enhancing the Environmental, Health, and Safety components of the Company’s Management System and processes. This role is critical in ensuring that personnel, equipment, and operations align with the expectations set forth by the Company’s core values. The EHS Manager is responsible for defining and communicating Environmental, Health, and Safety standards, establishing internal processes, and fostering accountability to consistently meet these standards. Collaboration with local department managers is essential to cultivate relationships that drive continuous improvement in systems and processes. The EHS Manager will also monitor the overall performance of the local system, identify gaps and challenges, and work with the management team to implement strategic improvements.

The Company operates multiple locations across the United States, with an EHS Manager at each site working collaboratively to share best practices and drive improvements. While EHS Managers report directly to the Plant Manager, they also engage with the National EHS team on specific projects and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advance the Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System:
    • Conduct thorough reviews and gap analyses to identify current processes and improvement opportunities.
    • Ensure alignment and accountability with other departments through necessary audits.
    • Collaborate with the National EHS Team to develop and implement best practices and standards with local operations.
  • Manage EHS Opportunities:
    • Lead investigations of internal incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions in partnership with local management.
    • Oversee external EHS opportunities and provide support to the sales team and customers as needed.
  • Develop the Local Team:
    • Coach local departments and leaders on EHS policies to enhance the safety culture.
    • Act as a subject matter expert on EHS best practices and compliance.
    • Provide audit feedback to the Plant Manager for performance reviews.
  • Enhance EHS Metrics:
    • Utilize Leading Indicator data to prioritize local EHS opportunities and track the effectiveness of strategic actions.
    • Work with local management to establish targets and actions for improvement.
    • Communicate progress through monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Support New Equipment and Product Launches:
    • Lead cross-functional teams in identifying and mitigating risks during planning and launch phases.
    • Ensure selected hazard prevention and control methods meet or exceed industry standards.
    • Establish and validate operating procedures, training requirements, and specifications for equipment and protective gear.
  • Ensure Compliance with EHS Standards:
    • Manage local EHS audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
    • Conduct inspections to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • General Responsibilities:
  • Provide EHS performance reports to local management.
  • Manage EHS documentation and records.
  • Lead EHS training and onboarding for new hires.
  • Oversee site EHS compliance programs, including Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Waste, and Emergency Response.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or safety preferred.
  • 2-5+ years of experience in EHS management preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement processes effectively.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and familiarity with project management tools.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel locally and nationally as needed.
  • Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and relevant regulations.
  • Analytical skills to identify trends and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
