We are currently seeking a dedicated Environmental Health and Safety Specialist (EHS). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in risk mitigation, fostering a safe workplace, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. EHS specialists are tasked with the development, implementation, and enforcement of our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the creation and coordination of innovative safety programs (Operational Safety Excellence).
  • Review existing safety programs and align them with current OSHA standards (lockout-tagout, PPE, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel as required (up to 50% of the time).
  • Conduct hazard safety analyses and coordinate mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze accident and incident reports, providing recommendations for enhancements.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations across facilities.
  • Facilitate daily safety meetings and audits.
  • Perform weekly inspections of critical safety areas, including eye wash stations and ladders.
  • Conduct monthly assessments for hazardous waste management.
  • Collaborate with Plant and Manufacturing Managers to cultivate a robust safety culture.
  • Oversee plant security and document nightly shutdown protocols.
  • Review operational processes and implement Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Prepare safety reports for any incidents.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments of work areas.
  • Lead initiatives for plant cleanliness and recycling efforts.
  • Execute internal and external safety audits to ensure compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Manage the forklift training program across multiple plants.
  • Establish and lead a hearing assessment program.
  • Document and oversee a hazardous waste management program.
  • Assist in understanding city, county, and OSHA requirements relevant to operations.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations along with manufacturing safety protocols is essential.
  • Comprehensive understanding of EHS standards and the necessary precautions to ensure employee safety.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with operators and business leaders at all levels.
  • Ability to construct business cases with a solid analytical approach is advantageous.
  • Adaptability to evolving business needs.
  • Familiarity with Lean methodologies (5S, VSM, Flow, Takt time, line balancing, etc.) is beneficial.
  • Project management experience and training are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ESG programs is a plus.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Ergonomic training is advantageous.
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training is a plus.
  • Certifications such as RCRA, NFPA 70e, CIH, CSP, ASP, OHST, CHMM, CHST, CHMP are beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma tools is a plus.
