POSITION SUMMARY

Utilizing advanced expertise and comprehensive knowledge, this role is responsible for the analysis, design, development, execution, and assessment of training programs for licensed operations at Columbia Generating Station (CGS). These programs are developed in alignment with the CGS Systematic Approach to Training model and relevant operational procedures.

This position plays a crucial role in enhancing both station and personnel performance through effective training initiatives. It is essential that all training programs adhere to regulatory standards and support ongoing accreditation by the National Academy of Nuclear Training.

Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of plant operations and relevant skills is vital for the successful development and delivery of high-quality training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Execution of Operations Training Programs:

  • Delivering technical instruction using approved educational materials and employing suitable learning strategies in various training environments, including classroom, plant, and simulator settings.
  • Administering assessments to evaluate the achievement of training objectives.
  • Monitoring trainee performance through data analysis, providing remediation, and offering guidance as necessary.
  • Ensuring timely preparation and submission of training records to the designated repository.
  • Meeting the training needs of the line organization and maintaining accessible records for management oversight.
  • Establishing credibility as an instructor by responding effectively to trainee feedback and adapting to the needs of the group.
  • Utilizing communication techniques that enhance learner comprehension and skill acquisition.
  • Exhibiting strong presentation skills, including effective organization of content and appropriate use of verbal and nonverbal communication.
  • Employing diverse instructional methods, such as lectures, group activities, and hands-on demonstrations.
  • Assessing learner outcomes and identifying both positive and negative results from training participation.
  • Evaluating learner engagement during activities and discussions, and assessing final performance post-instruction.

Development and Maintenance of Operations Training Programs:

  • Conducting needs assessments and job analyses to inform training development.
  • Creating and updating training materials to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  • Revising training programs based on participant feedback and changes in industry standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and technical accuracy in training content.
  • Integrating relevant regulations and guidelines into training programs.
  • Reviewing and refining training materials based on expert feedback.

Simulator Instruction Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating crew performance through observation and documentation.
  • Ensuring comprehensive task accomplishment by monitoring crew and equipment performance.
  • Utilizing effective teamwork and diagnostic skills during simulated plant conditions.
  • Promoting effective communication through various methods.
  • Adjusting leadership styles to enhance team interactions.

Oversight of Operations Training Programs:

  • Monitoring the condition of training materials to ensure they are current and accurate.
  • Implementing necessary changes to training documentation and materials.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of training conducted by other specialists.
  • Advising management on necessary adjustments to training programs.
  • Benchmarking training programs against industry standards.
  • Collaborating with management to schedule and conduct training sessions.

Professional Development:

  • Maintaining instructional and technical qualifications through ongoing education and training.
  • Participating in structured activities to stay current with industry developments.
  • Assessing personal skills to enhance work efficiency.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited institution AND an RO/SRO license/certification, along with four years of experience in operations or training within a commercial or Naval nuclear power facility.

OR

Requires a high school diploma/GED and an RO/SRO license/certification, with eight years of experience in operations or training within a commercial or Naval nuclear power facility.

Experience as a Certified Nuclear Navy Instructor and relevant qualifications will be considered in lieu of the RO/SRO license/certification.
