Position Overview

The Clinical Research Nurse will play a crucial role in executing a significant intervention aimed at enhancing medication management within long-term care facilities as part of a comprehensive clinical study. This position will operate under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and requires a minimum of 5 years of nursing experience with a valid RN license. A Compact license is preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough reviews of electronic health records.
  • Suggest modifications to medication regimens in alignment with study protocols and evidence-based practices, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Engage in shared decision-making processes with patients and their families to shape care plans.
  • Relay recommendations to nursing home staff and community healthcare providers.
  • Oversee the implementation of medication adjustments.
  • Offer self-management support to patients experiencing medication changes.
  • Provide educational resources to patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Monitor and document any adverse events related to medication alterations.

The Clinical Research Nurse will work across various skilled nursing facilities and will have a hybrid work schedule. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in onboarding activities, including training on deprescribing practices and osteoporosis management; utilizing electronic data collection tools and understanding the broader study framework.
  • Assisting in the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Implementing established SOPs effectively.
  • Ensuring timely execution of study protocols, including data collection, randomization, and adherence to intervention fidelity.
  • Managing data efficiently, ensuring participant and study documentation aligns with SOPs, particularly for complex data requiring access to electronic health records.
  • Collaborating closely with recruitment teams to enhance participant enrollment efforts.
  • Developing and applying strategies to sustain recruitment and retention rates while identifying and addressing challenges.
  • Attending regular study meetings and providing updates to the Principal Investigator.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including those set by governmental and institutional bodies, and adhering to HIPAA regulations. This includes obtaining informed consent and following guidelines for research involving vulnerable populations.
  • Preparing verbal or written reports as directed and undertaking special projects as needed.
  • Serving as a consultant to other researchers within the organization and providing leadership to research coordinators to facilitate successful study execution.
  • Presenting findings to professional and community audiences through co-authored publications and presentations as required.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, particularly in nursing home settings and with electronic health records.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in videoconferencing tools.
  • Previous experience in clinical trials is advantageous but not essential.
  • Familiarity with electronic data collection systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of clinical issues pertinent to older adults in nursing homes is beneficial.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster participation in study protocols and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills, including email communication, MS Office applications, and online meeting platforms.
  • Understanding of regulations governing human subjects research.
  • A professional, proactive, and results-oriented approach, with strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and innovate within a dynamic environment.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and flexibility in adapting to change.
