Position Overview

The Clinical Research Nurse will play a crucial role in implementing a medication optimization initiative within skilled nursing facilities as part of a comprehensive clinical study. This position requires collaboration with the Principal Investigator and entails a minimum of five years of nursing experience, along with a valid nursing license. A Compact license is advantageous but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze electronic health records to assess patient medication needs.
  • Propose medication adjustments based on established study protocols and evidence-based practices, working alongside a multidisciplinary team.
  • Engage in shared decision-making processes with patients and their families to develop care plans.
  • Relay medication recommendations to nursing home staff and community healthcare providers.
  • Assist in the implementation of prescribed medication changes.
  • Offer support for self-management to patients undergoing medication adjustments.
  • Provide education to patients, families, healthcare providers, and staff regarding medication management.
  • Monitor and document any adverse reactions in patients following medication changes.

The Clinical Research Nurse will operate across various skilled nursing facilities and will adhere to a hybrid work schedule. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in onboarding activities related to deprescribing and osteoporosis management; utilizing electronic data collection tools and understanding the broader study framework.
  • Assisting in the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Executing SOPs effectively.
  • Ensuring timely adherence to study protocols, including data collection and randomization.
  • Managing data efficiently, ensuring that participant and study documentation aligns with SOPs.
  • Overseeing recruitment strategies in collaboration with the recruitment Project Director.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to enhance recruitment and retention rates while identifying potential issues.
  • Attending regular study meetings and providing updates to the Principal Investigator.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including those set by governmental and institutional bodies, while safeguarding participant rights.
  • Preparing verbal or written reports as required and undertaking special projects as necessary.
  • Occasionally serving as a consultant to support principal investigators and guide research coordinators in facilitating successful studies.
  • Presenting findings to both professional and community audiences through publications and presentations as needed.
  • The above responsibilities represent the core functions of the role but do not encompass all duties that may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of nursing experience, including work in nursing homes and familiarity with electronic health records.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in videoconferencing technology.
  • Previous experience in clinical trials is preferred but not essential.
  • Familiarity with electronic data collection systems is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of clinical issues pertinent to older adults in nursing homes is a plus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster participation in study protocols and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills, including email communication, MS Office applications, and online meeting platforms.
  • Understanding of regulations governing human subjects research.
  • A professional, proactive, and results-oriented approach, with a positive attitude and strong judgment skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
