General Overview of Responsibilities

Under general oversight, this role involves executing specialized tasks related to all facets of vector control operations and community outreach initiatives aimed at educating the public about mosquito management.

Employees in this position operate at an entry-level capacity, working under the guidance of the Mosquito Control Supervisor. While independent work is common, all activities are conducted within established policies and procedures.


Key Responsibilities

The following duties are representative of the essential functions performed in this role:

  • Interprets various instructions, maps, and schedules to identify suitable spraying locations.
  • Applies insecticides and chemicals in accordance with established procedures, ensuring compliance with all relevant Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State, and County regulations regarding pesticide application.
  • Operates spray vehicles with a strong awareness of pedestrian and traffic conditions, adhering to traffic laws for the safe distribution of mosquito control substances.
  • Maintains and cleans spray equipment, ensuring proper flushing of the spray system after each shift.
  • Disposes of hazardous materials following safety policies and environmental guidelines; keeps facilities and equipment clean and organized.
  • Assists in coordinating community information booths and participates in outreach programs, including educational initiatives in schools.
  • Engages in field outreach and operational campaigns within neighborhoods as necessary, including distributing informational materials to at-risk communities.
  • Participates in community events and employee outreach activities, providing information and support.
  • Handles telephone inquiries, directing them to the appropriate department or individual as needed.
  • Performs clerical tasks, including report completion and general office support, while managing data entry and outreach content development.
  • Maintains inventory of outreach materials and ensures the outreach vehicle is well-stocked and clean.
  • Serves as a night spray driver during public health emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Class E Florida Driver's License.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficiency in English, including reading and writing.
  • Familiarity with office procedures and equipment.
  • Understanding of regulations related to mosquito control and safety procedures.
  • Capability to operate light equipment and vehicles safely.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively engage with the community.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds. Candidates must have good eyesight and the ability to communicate effectively.
