General Overview of Responsibilities

Under general oversight, this role involves executing specialized tasks related to all facets of mosquito management operations and community outreach initiatives aimed at educating the public about mosquito control measures. Employees operate at an entry-level capacity, working under the guidance of the Mosquito Control Supervisor. Although independent work is common, all tasks are performed within established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

The following list of key responsibilities is representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It may not be exhaustive of every position in the class. Management may assign additional duties as necessary.
  • Interprets various instructions, maps, diagrams, or schedules to identify suitable spraying locations.
  • Administers insecticides and chemicals in accordance with established protocols to ensure optimal area coverage while adhering to all relevant Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State, and County regulations governing pesticide application.
  • Operates a spray vehicle as required, maintaining vigilance regarding pedestrian and traffic conditions, and complying with traffic laws and safe driving practices for the effective distribution of mosquito control agents in designated areas.
  • Maintains and cleans the spray vehicle and equipment, ensuring the spray system is flushed after each use.
  • Disposes of chemicals, biological agents, and hazardous materials following prescribed safety and environmental procedures; ensures cleanliness of facilities and equipment; manages inventory of materials.
  • Supports the coordination of informational booths at community events; schedules and participates in community outreach activities.
  • Contributes to various aspects of the outreach program, including educational initiatives for schools; assists in the research of suitable educational materials.
  • Engages in field outreach and operational campaigns in local neighborhoods as necessary, including delivering informational materials to communities at risk.
  • Participates in community and employee outreach events, including informational sessions with local organizations and public health fairs.
  • Fulfills all duties within the framework of established safety policies and procedures.
  • Handles telephone inquiries and concerns, determining the nature of calls and resolving issues or directing them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks, including documenting spraying assignments; provides general office and outreach support by communicating with residents regarding spray notifications.
  • Logs service requests daily, completing assignments in a timely manner and reporting results.
  • Maintains equipment and brochure inventories; ensures outreach vehicles are stocked and clean.
  • Serves as a night spray operator in the event of a public health emergency.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Class E Florida Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
  • Familiarity with office procedures and equipment; understanding of clerical and administrative support functions.
  • Ability to read and understand Federal, State, and local regulations related to mosquito control chemical distribution and safety protocols.
  • Capability to learn and adhere to proper safety practices.
  • Ability to operate light equipment and spray vehicles with awareness of pedestrian and traffic conditions.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments; adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with management, colleagues, and the public.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment.
  • Ability to maintain various records and files, with knowledge of administrative support functions.

  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds; frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication and auditory skills.
  • Good vision for safety and production purposes.
