Overview:

The Supplier Development Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless supply of components to our manufacturing lines. This position is integral to the Supply Chain Organization, focusing on the recovery and enhancement of critical production suppliers. The primary responsibility involves collaborating with Supply Chain counterparts to implement a cohesive strategy while engaging with Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer Service to uphold supplier commitments. It is essential to address all critical issues, maintain a recovery roadmap, and ensure proactive communication with stakeholders. On-site engagement at supplier facilities is vital for monitoring and ensuring improved supplier performance. Additionally, this role is tasked with verifying the production readiness of approved suppliers for new program launches. Each supplier development scenario is unique, requiring the engineer to select appropriate strategies, methodologies, and lessons learned to effectively tackle challenges. Furthermore, the Supplier Development Engineer should actively seek opportunities for cost reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the supply chain team in meeting business objectives.
  • Represent the company at supplier locations and escalate issues as necessary to avert operational crises.
  • Engage with suppliers to comprehend critical part requirements and shortages, including reviewing the overall open order report.
  • Evaluate supplier weaknesses accurately and propose solutions through root cause analysis utilizing the 8D methodology.
  • Monitor high-risk supplier development challenges to prevent operational disruptions.
  • Facilitate and enhance supplier problem-solving techniques for identified issues.
  • Improve and refine supplier production systems and processes to mitigate operational impacts.
  • Promote supplier operational excellence, including capacity and tier-n management support.
  • Establish focused priorities to achieve objectives by developing a comprehensive mitigation action plan.
  • Adhere to company processes and procedures, including integrity and code of conduct policies.
  • Participate in company reviews and reporting metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical aspects of design and manufacturing processes, both aircraft and non-aircraft related.
  • Experience with internationally recognized quality systems such as AS9100, TS16949, and ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean Sigma methodologies is advantageous.
  • Program Management experience with complex project-based assignments is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in supplier quality, capacity management, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or crisis management, ideally within the aerospace sector.
  • Possess a positive, forward-thinking attitude with high energy levels.
  • Ability to utilize inspection and quality tools to foresee bottlenecks, explore alternatives, provide solutions, and enhance supplier performance.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated accountability and project management skills for tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of urgency and commitment.
  • Able to navigate uncertainty and unexpected challenges while managing unfamiliar tasks.
  • Skilled in multitasking and effectively managing workload.
  • Capable of instilling a sense of urgency in suppliers focused on communication and results.
  • Provide direct and actionable feedback.
  • Deliver timely information for informed decision-making.
  • Build trustful relationships, address issues, and support problem-solving efforts.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Regular exposure to operational noise, temperature variations, dust, and/or aircraft-related odors.
  2. Ability to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for extended periods as required by job duties.
  3. Work safely and professionally while complying with all regulatory requirements.
  4. Ability to read, hear, speak, and see without restrictions as required by job duties.
  5. Comprehend and follow management directions and safety instructions without restrictions.
  6. Effectively communicate in Business English.
  7. Ability to lift, carry, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance.
  8. Ability to lift, carry, or move materials weighing up to 50 lbs. or more during the work shift, using provided assistive technology as required.
