Overview:

The Supplier Development Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the uninterrupted supply of components to our manufacturing operations. This position is integral to the Supply Chain team, focusing on the recovery and enhancement of critical supplier performance. The primary responsibility involves collaborating with Supply Chain colleagues to implement a cohesive strategy while coordinating with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service to uphold supplier commitments. The engineer will actively engage with suppliers on-site to facilitate performance improvements and ensure readiness for new program launches. Each supplier engagement presents unique challenges, requiring tailored approaches and methodologies to achieve optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the supply chain team in meeting operational objectives.
  • Act as a representative at supplier locations, addressing issues proactively to mitigate operational disruptions.
  • Engage with suppliers to assess critical part requirements and manage shortages through comprehensive order reviews.
  • Evaluate supplier deficiencies and propose corrective actions utilizing root cause analysis techniques.
  • Monitor and manage high-risk supplier development challenges to avert operational crises.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance supplier problem-solving capabilities for identified issues.
  • Refine and enhance supplier production systems to safeguard operational integrity.
  • Promote supplier excellence, including capacity management and tier-n support.
  • Establish clear priorities and develop robust action plans to achieve objectives.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, maintaining integrity and compliance.
  • Contribute to company reviews and performance metrics reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical aspects of design and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with internationally recognized quality systems such as AS9100, TS16949, or ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or Lean methodologies is advantageous.
  • Program management experience in complex project assignments is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in supplier quality management, capacity planning, and manufacturing engineering, preferably within the aerospace sector.
  • Exhibit a proactive and energetic approach to challenges.
  • Ability to utilize quality inspection tools to identify potential bottlenecks and drive supplier performance improvements.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated accountability and project management skills with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to tasks.
  • Able to navigate uncertainty and adapt to unfamiliar challenges.
  • Skilled in multitasking and effectively managing workload.
  • Ability to foster urgency in suppliers regarding communication and results.
  • Provide constructive feedback and timely information for informed decision-making.
  • Build trustful relationships while addressing challenges and facilitating solutions.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Exposure to operational noise, temperature variations, and potential odors from equipment.
  2. Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and reaching as required.
  3. Commitment to safety and adherence to regulatory standards.
  4. Effective communication skills in English.
  5. Capability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs with appropriate assistance technology.
  6. Full range of motion and agility is required.
