Overview:

The Supplier Development Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the uninterrupted supply of components to our manufacturing lines. This position collaborates closely with the Supply Chain Organization to recover essential production suppliers. The primary responsibility of this role is to facilitate the implementation of a coordinated strategy alongside Supply Chain counterparts while engaging with Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer Service to uphold supplier commitments. This involves addressing critical issues, maintaining a recovery roadmap, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. On-site engagement at supplier facilities is vital for executing and verifying supplier performance improvements. Additionally, this role is tasked with confirming the production readiness of approved suppliers in anticipation of new program launches. Each supplier development initiative is unique, requiring the engineer to select appropriate strategies, focus areas, techniques, and lessons learned to effectively tackle challenges. The Supplier Development Engineer should also actively seek opportunities for cost reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the supply chain team in meeting business objectives.
  • Represent the company at supplier locations and escalate issues as necessary to avert operational crises.
  • Engage proactively with suppliers to comprehend critical part requirements and shortages, including a comprehensive review of open order reports.
  • Evaluate supplier weaknesses accurately and propose solutions through root cause analysis utilizing the 8D methodology.
  • Monitor high-risk supplier development issues to mitigate potential operational crises.
  • Promote and develop problem-solving techniques for identified supplier faults.
  • Enhance and refine supplier production systems and processes to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Drive operational excellence among suppliers, including capacity and tier-n management support.
  • Establish focused priorities to achieve objectives by creating a robust mitigation action plan.
  • Adhere to company processes and procedures, including integrity and code of conduct policies.
  • Participate in company reviews and reporting metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Over 5 years of experience in technical aspects of design and manufacturing processes related to aircraft and non-aircraft.
  • Experience with internationally recognized quality systems such as AS9100, TS16949, and ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean Sigma methodologies is advantageous.
  • Program management experience in overseeing complex project-based assignments is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in supplier quality, capacity management, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or crisis management, ideally within the aerospace sector.
