The Supplier Development Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless supply of components to our manufacturing operations. This position is integral to the Supply Chain Organization, focusing on the recovery and enhancement of key production suppliers. The primary responsibility of the Supplier Development Engineer is to collaborate effectively with Supply Chain counterparts while coordinating with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service to uphold supplier commitments. This role emphasizes proactive communication with stakeholders and addresses any critical issues that may arise. On-site engagement at supplier facilities is essential for driving improvements in supplier performance. Additionally, this position is tasked with confirming the readiness of approved suppliers for new program launches. Each supplier development scenario presents unique challenges, requiring tailored approaches and techniques to ensure effective resolutions. The Supplier Development Engineer should also seek opportunities for cost savings throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the supply chain team in meeting business objectives.
  • Act as a representative at supplier locations and escalate issues to avert operational crises.
  • Engage with suppliers to assess critical part requirements and shortages, including reviewing open order reports.
  • Evaluate supplier deficiencies and propose solutions through root cause analysis, utilizing methodologies such as 8D.
  • Monitor high-risk supplier development challenges to prevent operational disruptions.
  • Facilitate and enhance supplier problem-solving strategies for identified issues.
  • Refine and enhance supplier production systems and processes to mitigate operational impacts.
  • Promote supplier operational excellence, including capacity management and tier-n support.
  • Establish focused priorities to achieve objectives by developing and maintaining a comprehensive mitigation action plan.
  • Adhere to company processes and policies, including integrity and code of conduct standards.
  • Participate in company reviews and contribute to reporting metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical aspects of design and manufacturing processes, both aircraft and non-aircraft related.
  • Familiarity with internationally recognized quality systems such as AS9100, TS16949, and ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or Lean Sigma methodologies is advantageous.
  • Program management experience with complex project assignments is preferred.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Proficient in supplier quality, capacity management, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or crisis management, ideally within the aerospace sector.
  • Possess a positive, proactive attitude with high energy levels.
  • Ability to utilize inspection and quality tools to identify bottlenecks, explore alternatives, and drive supplier performance improvements.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated accountability and project management skills, able to work independently.
  • Exhibit a strong sense of urgency and commitment to tasks.
  • Able to navigate uncertainty and unexpected challenges while managing unfamiliar tasks.
  • Capable of multitasking and efficiently managing workload.

Physical Requirements:

  1. May encounter operational noise, temperature variations, dust, and odors from aircraft equipment and materials.
  2. Must be able to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, reach, or stretch for extended periods as required by job duties.
  3. Work safely and professionally, adhering to all regulatory requirements.
  4. Must have the ability to read, hear, speak, and see without restrictions as required by job duties.
  5. Comprehend and follow management directions and safety instructions without restrictions.
  6. Effectively communicate in Business English.
  7. Ability to lift or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance.
  8. Ability to lift or move materials weighing up to 50 lbs. or more with the use of company-provided assistive technology as required.
