Overview:

The Supplier Development Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless supply of components to our manufacturing operations. This position is vital in supporting the Supply Chain Division to recover critical production suppliers. The main responsibility of the Supplier Development Engineer is to collaborate with Supply Chain colleagues while coordinating with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service regarding supplier commitments. This ensures that all critical issues are addressed, recovery plans are maintained, and proactive communication is upheld with stakeholders. On-site engagement at supplier facilities is essential for the successful execution and assurance of enhanced supplier performance. Furthermore, this role is accountable for confirming the production readiness of approved suppliers for any new program launches. During supplier development and technical assistance missions, the engineer must select the appropriate approach, depth, focus, techniques, and lessons learned to effectively tackle unique supplier development opportunities. Additionally, the Supplier Development Engineer should actively seek out cost reduction opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the supply chain team in meeting business objectives.
  • Represent the company at supplier locations and escalate issues as necessary to avert operational crises.
  • Engage proactively with suppliers and supply chains to comprehend critical part requirements and shortages, including reviewing the overall open order report.
  • Assess supplier weaknesses accurately and provide solutions through root cause analysis utilizing the 8D methodology.
  • Monitor high-risk supplier development issues to prevent operational crises.
  • Facilitate and enhance supplier problem-solving techniques for identified supplier faults.
  • Improve and develop supplier production systems and processes to mitigate operational impacts.
  • Drive supplier operational excellence, including capacity and tier-n management support.
  • Establish focused priorities to achieve objectives by creating a robust mitigation action plan.
  • Adhere to company processes and procedures, including all integrity and code of conduct policies.
  • Participate in company reviews and report metrics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical aspects of design and manufacturing processes related to aircraft and non-aircraft.
  • Experience with internationally recognized quality systems such as AS9100, TS16949, ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean Sigma methodologies is preferred.
  • Program Management experience with complex project-based assignments is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience in supplier quality, capacity management, manufacturing engineering, supplier development, or crisis management, preferably in the aerospace sector.
  • Possess a positive, forward-thinking attitude with high energy levels.
  • Ability to utilize inspection and quality tools to foresee bottlenecks, explore alternatives, provide solutions, and enhance supplier performance.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated accountability and project management skills for tasks without close supervision.
  • Act with a strong sense of urgency and commitment.
  • Able to navigate uncertainty and unexpected challenges while managing unfamiliar tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and efficiently manage workload.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Regular exposure to operational noise, temperature variations, dust, and/or aircraft-related equipment and odors.
  2. Ability to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for extended periods as required by job duties.
  3. Work safely and professionally while complying with all regulatory requirements.
  4. Ability to read, hear, speak, and see without restrictions as required by job duties.
  5. Comprehend and follow management directions and safety instructions without restrictions.
  6. Effectively communicate in Business English.
  7. Ability to lift or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance.
  8. Ability to lift or move materials weighing up to 50 lbs. or more during the work shift, utilizing company-provided assistance technology as required.
  9. Must possess full range of motion and agility.
