Position Title: Engineering Technician V

Role Summary: The Engineering Technician V role will provide support to the Sensors and SONAR Systems Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport, which oversees a comprehensive range of engineering and research activities related to Sensors, SONAR, Undersea Warfare, and Autonomous Vehicles.

Engineering services are essential for analysis, in-service engineering, prototype development, testing, evaluation, and system engineering support for Towed, Hull, and Sensor System programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing, constructing, delivering, updating, testing, and maintaining specialized prototype and testing hardware.
  • Integrating prototype and testing hardware into laboratory and shipboard settings.
  • Creating or modifying integration plans and supplying all necessary materials, cables, connectors, mock-ups, equipment, test devices, tools, commercial software, shipping containers, and consumables for effective hardware integration.
  • Updating and maintaining hardware documentation, including Hardware Development Plans, to reflect changes due to specifications, testing, and conversion requirements.
  • Conducting operability and longevity tests in both laboratory and shipboard environments.
  • Providing troubleshooting and reconfiguration support for system hardware.
  • Participating in shipboard testing, repair, and installation activities.
  • Offering remote support for deployed platforms.
  • Inspecting, evaluating, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic assemblies in accordance with U.S. Navy and local work instructions.
  • Developing and updating local work instructions for evaluations and repairs.
  • Conducting receipt inspections of materials and components.
  • Managing and auditing inventories of materials and repair parts.
  • Researching and procuring repair parts.
  • Maintaining proprietary laboratory test units and systems to ensure all testing devices are operational and ready for immediate use.
  • Preparing and maintaining reports and laboratory procedures to align with current standards and practices.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proficient understanding of Naval Technical Manuals and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
  • Familiarity with the Naval Supply System.
  • Knowledge of shipboard processes and regulations for executing alteration work.
  • Experience with various types of computer hardware and software is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Timely completion of tasks to meet repair deadlines and ship schedules.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, critical thinking abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of contractor and government/military personnel.
  • Experience operating various types of electronic test equipment (e.g., digital multimeter, oscilloscope, signal injector).
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and diagrams.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel as required (less than 20%).

Work Location: Newport, RI, with minimal-to-no telework options available.
